About the Project

At the end of 2018, I began photographing people with face tattoos — often combined with full-body tattoos, inked eyes, scarifications, and other extreme body modifications. Jobstoppers began as a genuine interest in visual identity and self-expression, and has since grown into a long-term portrait series that continues to evolve.

All portraits in the series are shot in powerful black and white, using a high-contrast style with a black background to remove distractions and place full focus on the individual.

The series aims to celebrate freedom of expression, personal choice, and individuality, offering space for stories that are often overlooked or misunderstood. Behind every bold appearance lies a thoughtful decision, a deeper meaning, or a life story worth telling.

Books & Publications

Jobstoppers has led to the self-publication of two books, each offering a different perspective on the project. The first book, Jobstoppers: A Collection of Face Tattoo Portraits, features 25 individuals, presented through striking black-and-white portraits and short background stories.

The second book compiles 250 Polaroids, shot throughout the project as an informal behind-the-scenes archive. These images capture the raw, candid moments between sessions and offer an unfiltered glimpse into the personalities behind the portraits.

The project has been featured in several Belgian newspapers and exhibited at creative venues and events. It continues to grow, both as an expanding archive and a conversation about how we view identity, appearance, and expression.
